Our Care and Support - Children's Hospice Week

Jess with family

Children’s Hospice Week, running from 17-23 June, offers us the opportunity to highlight the impact of Hospice in the Weald for Children on local children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families.

We know that caring for a child with complex health needs is both physically and emotionally challenging. The high-quality, family-led care we provide addresses the specific needs of each child, helping them reach their full potential.

Our team of registered children’s nurses, children’s support workers, and volunteers provide support from Monday to Friday and are specially trained in delivering high-quality care that makes a real difference, regardless of the child or family member’s needs.

Here, we focus on our key areas of care that currently serve over 80 children, parents and siblings; from comprehensive family and bereavement support to engaging activities and play. Read on to see how we might be able to help you or someone you know…

Fun and Activities!

At Hospice in the Weald, we believe that children should be able to enjoy being children, despite their circumstances. We have exciting plans for a dedicated Children’s Centre in the future. Meanwhile, we support children and their families by providing fun activities both at home and outdoors. Play helps children learn, develop, and serves as a distraction from their challenges, making things feel better.

Family Care and Help

Caring for a seriously ill child can place a significant strain on the entire family. Parents and siblings often become primary caregivers, which can lead to neglecting their own needs. At Hospice in the Weald, we recognise the importance of preserving the well-being of the whole family. Our goal is to ease this burden so you can focus on enjoying valuable time together and maintaining a sense of normalcy and joy in family life.

Bereavement Support

We are here to support you and your loved ones through difficult times and offer various forms of support after a child’s death. No matter how prepared you might be, the death of a child can affect people in unexpected ways. Our free counselling services are accessible to all families with a child registered with the Hospice or connected to any other local hospice. Additionally, our therapeutic support for children and families offers greater flexibility than individual counselling, ensuring comprehensive care tailored to your needs.
