Mark your calendars – Hospice in the Weald’s iconic Love Your Labels Lock-in is fast approaching. To help you make the most of your time at the event on 26th September, we caught up with Susie @susiesecondhand, a local charity shop enthusiast, to get her insights on finding the most sought-after designer pieces on the night. Read on to find out more!
“Hospice in the Weald is a very special charity providing free care and support to children and adults living with a terminal or life-limiting illness. If I can buy a jumper from one of their charity shops and have the money go to help the work they do – rather than a large corporate fashion brand – then that seems like a no-brainer.
“I am constantly amazed at the clothes I find in charity shops that are in near perfect condition or are brand new with the tags still on. Some of the vintage pieces you can find are beautiful and so well made, in high quality fabrics. Love Your Labels is going to be a chance to shop a carefully curated selection of vintage, designer and high-end high-street pieces, while supporting a very worthy cause.
“I’ve had a sneaky peek at some of the stock that will be available on the night and it’s completely fabulous. I’m going to be first in line to get in there and start rummaging on 26th September! I love that my money is going to support Hospice in the Weald who will then use it to support people in need.
“I love the thrill of never knowing what I’m going to come home with and building an eclectic personal style with the pieces I find. Economically, I spend so much less than if I was buying new. More than anything, I know the environmental benefits of buying second hand are huge, and it makes me feel good that I can make a positive impact by doing something I enjoy so much.
“My number one tip: feel the fabric, I do this whenever I go charity shopping. Run your fingers along the rail and you’ll feel the quality as you go: if there is wool or cashmere there then you’ll find it. I do really think the quality of designer labels stands out in terms of feel, look and design so trust your instincts to find the gems.
“Charity shopping has so many benefits. I think sometimes people are a little scared of the unknown or think the clothes will be damaged or stained, but there is so much amazing stuff to be found. I would encourage everybody to pop into their local charity shop and see what they can find.”
